The ASLab Research Line in Cognitive Systems fits into the Group’s Research Space as shown in the figure, being the main vertical advances in III and especially in II. Line III is represented by the work in the design of a cognitive architecture. Thesis A Foundation for Perception in Autonomous Systems will cover the whole scope, providing an integrated view of perception, deliberation, action and knowledge, although the main focus will be in (II,1). Activity 5, Ontologies will equally cover the whole vertical line. Activity 4, Theory on metacognition will be focused on (II,4). There will be also some advance in VL III, in robotics in particular, covering all horizontal lines, and probably making some advance in IV, regarding middleware, communications and real-time functionalities.

We can consider there are basically three groups of things to do, we could call Lines I, II and III. Lines I and II would be focused on creating a consolidated infrastructure for research, one physical, the second virtual. Line III would be dedicated to our activities in cognitive engineering, and research on the results by others.
